New Year's Resolutions

It's that time of the year. Lose weight, quit smoking, perhaps something a little more creative ... we all make New Year's Resolutions. NBA players are no different, and I happen to have gotten a hold of the Sonics' New Year's Resolutions.

Gary Payton - Keep up the good attitude with teammates and the media. Take the three out of my offensive repetoire. Lead us to the playoffs, laugh in the face of critics, and convince Schultz and Walker to sign me to an extension at year's end.

Brent Barry - Continue to shoot as smart and as well as anyone in the NBA, but maybe take a few more shots. Take ballet classes to improve footwork on man defense. Get some kid at some independent Sonic website to talk more about how I'm the most underrated player in the NBA.

Rashard Lewis - Resign with the Sonics for less than the max to reward them again for their loyalty to me. Get to the lane -- and to the free-throw line -- more, and keep up the solid rebounding. Remember always to follow through on the run out.

Vin Baker - Keep up the good things I am doing -- playing in the post, offensive rebounding, getting up and down the court. Improve my defensive rebounding with better positioning. Avoid nagging injuries. Make more free throws. Then laugh in fae of critics.

Art Long - Make sure I'm playing smart and within my limits. Don't commit turnovers, and don't take bad shots. Continue to rebound like nobody's business and play solid -- and physical -- defense. Then, sign a nice little deal for myself come summertime.

Earl Watson - Work even harder on my free throw shooting; someday it'll come together. Keep playing heady offensive basketball and avoiding turnovers while running the offense. On defense ... well, no need to change anything there.

Shammond Williams - Buy one way ticket out of Seattle, preferably to Miami. That's pretty much all I need for a happy new year. Well, playing time, of course, but that will come there.

Desmond Mason - Get my shooting back to the same high standard it was at early on this season. Work on picking up my defensive intensity. Get my rebounding back to where it was last season, and look to move the ball around more.

Vladimir Radmanovic - Keep up the good work, win a starting job, live happily ever after. Oughtta improve my assist/turnover ratio a little, I guess.

Peja Drobnjak - Work out, work out, and work out some more. After that, get in the lane and hit somebody! Work on getting better rebounding position on both offense and defense, and more consistently stick the 17-footer.

Calvin Booth - Get healthy. That's it right now ... just get healthy.

Olumide Oyedeji - Get some playing time, somewhere. Convince somebody to pick me up this summer. Develop some semblance of an offensive game, while still hitting the boards.

Jerome James - Bring consistent play to the table. Learn from Art Long on offense; stop making mistakes and taking bad shots. Hit a good percentage of my shots, and throw around this big old body of mine.

Necessary legal disloser: No, these are not actually the Sonics' New Year's Resolutions. They're my resolutions for the team.
